Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla has put an end to the discussions about the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Recently, it was claimed in media reports that the ODI series between India and Australia will be the last for both the great players. But Rajeev Shukla has termed these news as completely wrong.
What did Rajeev Shukla say?
Rajvi Shukla said, “It is very beneficial for us (Rohit and Virat being in the team). Because both are great batsmen and with their presence, I think we will be successful in defeating Australia. As far as this series being their last is concerned, it is not at all the case. We should not get into such things. It is a personal decision of the players when to retire. To say that this is their last series is absolutely wrong.”

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Both have already retired from Test and T20 international cricket and are now playing only in the ODI format. Australia tour marks his return to international cricket.
Gill has got the command of ODI
Earlier, the selection committee has appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain of the ODI team, who has taken this responsibility in place of Rohit Sharma. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India won the Champions Trophy in March 2025. Keeping in mind the 2027 World Cup, the selection committee has decided to prepare Gill on time.

Meanwhile, before the series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Both will leave for Australia with the team on the morning of 15 October. The first ODI between India and Australia will be played in Perth on 19 October. The second match of the series will be played on 23rd and the last ODI on 25th October.
