Privacy Policy
What we collect, what we don't, and how information from our tools is handled.
1. Overview
CPS Testers ("we," "us," "the site") provides free, browser-based tools for testing click speed, reaction time, typing, keyboard and mouse performance, and related utilities. This policy explains what data those tools collect, how it's used, and what choices you have. The short version: almost everything runs locally in your browser and never reaches our servers, and no account or personal information is required to use any tool.
2. Information we collect
We collect very little, and only in these specific situations:
- Leaderboard submissions. Some tests (like the CPS Test) offer an optional global leaderboard. If you choose to submit a score, the nickname you enter and your score are sent to our database and displayed publicly alongside other submissions. This is entirely optional — closing the results screen without entering a name submits nothing.
- Standard server logs. Like virtually every website, our hosting infrastructure automatically logs basic technical data for security and performance purposes — things like IP address, browser type, and pages requested. We don't cross-reference these logs with anything you do inside a tool.
- Contact form messages. If you use the Contact page, the name, email address, and message you provide are used only to respond to your inquiry.
We do not require, and do not collect, your real name, date of birth, address, or any account credentials, because there is no account system on this site.
3. Local storage & your browser
Most of what feels like "your data" on this site — recent test history, personal best scores, saved calculator inputs, and your language preference — is stored using your browser's local storage feature, not on our servers. This data:
- Never leaves your device or gets transmitted to us
- Persists only in the specific browser and device you used
- Is automatically cleared if you clear your browser's site data, or can be cleared manually at any time (see Section 7)
4. Cookies & advertising
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. AdSense and its partners may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser to serve ads, including personalized ads based on your browsing activity across other sites, and to measure ad performance. You can control personalized advertising through Google's Ad Settings, and many browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely in their privacy settings.
5. Third-party services
A small number of external services are used to run this site, and each may process limited data independently of us:
- Google Fonts — loads the typefaces used across the site. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Firebase — stores leaderboard submissions (nickname and score only) for tests that offer one. See Firebase's Privacy & Security documentation.
- Google AdSense — serves the ads that keep every tool free. See Google's Advertising Privacy & Terms.
6. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because no account or personal information is required to use any tool, the only way information could be submitted at all is through an optional leaderboard nickname or the contact form, and we ask that these not be used by children under 13.
7. Your choices & rights
Because so little data is collected, most privacy controls are already in your hands:
- Clearing local data: clear your browser's site data/local storage for this domain at any time to remove your history, personal bests, and saved preferences.
- Leaderboard removal: to request removal of a leaderboard entry, contact us with the nickname, score, and approximate date, and we'll remove it.
- Ad personalization: opt out of personalized advertising at any time through Google's Ad Settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA — including the right to request a copy of, or deletion of, any data we hold about you. Since we don't maintain user accounts or profiles, the amount of identifiable data we're able to hold is minimal, but you can reach out via the Contact page for any such request.
8. Data security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect the limited data we do handle, including transmitting data over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and using reputable third-party infrastructure (Google Firebase) for leaderboard storage. No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, but given how little personal data this site handles in the first place, the practical exposure is low.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in the tools we offer or the services we use. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Contact us
Questions about this policy, or a request related to your data? Reach out through the Contact page and we'll get back to you.
