Last week, the President threatened to impose 100% tariff on imports of Chinese goods, which will come into effect from November 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the special thing is that America’s Finance Minister Scott Besant, who till now was seen speaking against India, seems to be changing his tone as the trade war with China escalates and he has expressed hope of support from India.
‘US will give a strong reply to China’
Amid tensions with China, US Finance Minister Scott Besant has said that if Beijing does not change its stance, then the US is fully prepared to respond strongly. He warned in a stern tone and said that America Ready for talks, but if China does not change its stance, Washington will give a strong response. He further said that we and our allies will not under any circumstances allow China to impose new export restrictions on rare earth minerals without any restrictions. He has called it a direct challenge to the global supply chain.
Expressed hope of support from India
Scott Besant was continuously targeting India after the double 50% tariff imposed by America on the purchase of Russian oil and arms. While justifying Trump’s tariff attack, he was accusing India of financially helping Russia in the Ukraine war. We are already in touch with colleagues and will hold meetings with them this week. Expressing hope, Besant said that I think we will get enough global support from European, Indian and Asian democracies and we will not allow export restrictions to continue.
The US Finance Minister has stressed that the US’s goal is to reduce risks from China, not isolation from it. Focusing on efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing in important sectors, he also expressed the hope that China is also ready for talks on this issue. But, if they do not do so, we have enough resources that we can use in an equally or perhaps even more aggressive manner. According to Besant, we do not want to do anything like what China has done in the case of rare earth minerals, but America has a policy of using our full strength.
