Just a week after the death of IPS Y Puran Kumar in Haryana on October 7, ASI Sandeep Kumar committed suicide by shooting himself on October 14. The coincidence between the two deaths is very shocking. Before dying, both of them wrote suicide notes. Both of them talked about corruption and casteist mentality in their departments and the allegations of both are very sensational. This matter has now taken a new turn.
The body of IPS Puran Kumar is still lying in the mortuary of Chandigarh PGI. Seven days passed, but the post-mortem has not been done yet. The family’s condition is that until DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijraniya, who are responsible for their husband’s death, are not arrested, there will be neither post-mortem nor funeral. There is a lot of politics going on in this matter.
The family alleges that IPS Puran Kumar was forced to commit suicide due to caste discrimination, mental harassment and a conspiracy to ruin his career. Meanwhile, on October 14, ASI Sandeep Kumar, posted in Rohtak Cyber Cell, shot himself inside his house. A 4-page suicide note and a video of 6 minutes 28 seconds were recovered from him.
Like Puran Kumar, he has also titled his suicide note as ‘Final Note’. In the video, Sandeep Kumar has directly made serious allegations against IPS Puran Kumar and his family. In the video he says, “I am a devotee of Bhagat Singh.” This fight will not be left incomplete. I will complete it in the next life also.” He has demanded an investigation into the property of Puran Kumar and his family.

Accusing him of corruption, he said that Puran Kumar implicated many honest officers within the department. Sandeep was the same officer who played an important role in the arrest of head constable Sushil Kumar, close to Puran Kumar. Puran Kumar’s name also recently surfaced in a bribery case. A liquor contractor from Rohtak had accused him of demanding a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh.
His allegation was that the IPS had demanded money through Head Constable Sushil Kumar. Puran Kumar wrote in an 8-page note before dying Haryana Rohtak DGP Shatrujit Kapoor, Rohtak SP Narendra Bijraniya and 15 senior IPS-IAS officers were held responsible for his death. He had written that caste discrimination and mental harassment had broken him.
His IAS wife Amneet Kumar has also said the same in the FIR, but the name of any officer was not included in the FIR registered by Chandigarh Police. But now the story has changed. Because in his suicide note and video, Sandeep Kumar himself has named Puran Kumar as responsible for his death. That means one suicide has been answered with another suicide.

After this development, all-round pressure on the Haryana government has increased. On Monday night, the government was forced to send DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor on long leave and O.P. Singh was made acting DGP. OP Singh is the brother-in-law of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Due to this case, Rohtak SP Narendra Bijraniya has already been transferred.
The matter has flared up on the political front also. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi went to Chandigarh and met Puran Kumar’s IAS wife Amneet Kumar and his daughters. Rahul questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Haryana government, “Why are those officers whose names are mentioned in the suicide note not being arrested?” He said that this is not the death of an officer, but a fight for Dalit honor and justice.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi said, “A wrong message is being sent to crores of Dalits in the country that if you are a Dalit, you can be crushed.” Apart from Congress, Dalit organizations and opposition leaders have also started protests on this issue. The Mahapanchayat in Rohtak had given a 48-hour ultimatum to the government that the movement would be intensified until the responsible officers were arrested.
That period also ended on Monday night. A six-member SIT has been formed to investigate the death of Puran Kumar. The court has also sent a notice to Puran Kumar’s wife to file her reply for identification and post-mortem of the body by October 15. The question now is whether a case of abetment to suicide will be registered even on the death of Sandeep Kumar? Is this a coincidence or a conspiracy?
