Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force and Barnala Police in a joint operation on Sunday arrested two associates of Bambiha gang. Six pistols and 19 live cartridges have been recovered from the possession of both of them. The recovered weapons included one PX5 pistol, one .30 bore pistol and four .32 bore pistols. The police have also seized the car which was used for smuggling of weapons.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that the accused have been identified as Sandeep Singh, resident of Hanumangarh, Rajasthan and Shekhar, resident of Kaithal, Haryana. Both are associated with the notorious Bambiha gang. Punjab Was part of the supply chain of illegal weapons. Preliminary investigation has revealed that both the accused were working at the behest of their foreign masters. Their aim was to commit big crimes.
Weapons were to be provided to the operatives of Bambiha gang. The police is working to destroy the entire supply chain of this network. AGTF Additional Director General of Police Pramod Ban said that the team had received intelligence input that the Bambiha gang was planning to carry out a sensational incident in the state. After this, two suspects were arrested by laying a trap on the Barnala-Bathinda main road.
Barnala Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam said that criminal cases were already registered against both the accused. A case has been registered against them at Roreke Kalan police station under sections of the Indian Justice Code and Arms Act. He said, “After this operation, the search for other gang members has been intensified.” More arrests and seizures are likely in the coming days.
This action of Punjab Police has not only weakened the network of Bambiha gang, but has also exposed the deep network of arms smuggling flourishing in the state through foreign connections.
