On the night of 16 October in Bhubaneswar, a 16-year-old girl was seen in distress on the road of Ashok Nagar. A woman saved him and admitted him to Capital Hospital. The girl is from Jharkhand. Initially it seemed that she was wandering on the road, but after investigation by doctors and police it was found that she was a victim of sexual abuse. This matter turned out to be so big that the entire sex racket was exposed. DCP Jagmohan Meena told that the woman who was rescued was herself involved in the racket.
Police vigilance and raid
The police found the auto rickshaw driver through CCTV footage, with the help of which the accused reached the woman. After this a raid was conducted in Laxmisagar area. Many violations were found there under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Two female brokers, the landlord and a man were arrested. This person is accused of raping a minor girl. Three more girls were found in the raid, who were forced into sex work. Everyone was rescued safely. The victim girl is still undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital.
Legal action and double FIR
Police registered two separate cases. The first case was registered in Capital Police Station under sections of POCSO Act and sexual exploitation. Second, under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act in Laxmisagar police station. A total of four people are under arrest. DCP said that investigation is going on and more accused are being searched.
Here, the Congress delegation was not allowed to meet the victim girl in the hospital. Leader Jayshree Patnaik opposed this. BJD women’s wing leaders Sulta Dev, Sumitra Jena and Ranjita Sahu cornered the BJP government in the press conference. He alleged that during the 16 months of BJP government, more than 37,750 cases were registered against women, which included rape, molestation and murder. Despite repeated protests from the opposition, no strict steps were taken.
