At the same time, from the Indian side, former Army Chief General MM Naravane, Vice President Swamy and Congress leader Sachin Pilot were named as speakers.
That means Pakistan was claiming victory without any debate. However, Sai Deepak denied Pakistan’s allegation. He said that the Speaker was confirmed, and so were General Naravane and Subramanian Swamy from the Indian side.
Sai Deepak shared an email from Oxford Union, which confirms his presence for the event on November 27 last month. Rejecting Pakistan High Commission’s tweet, Deepak wrote, “Trust Pakistanis, they will make even Oxford Union a mess. They are always expert in lying.” Deepak told that later the union said that Swamy and Naravane could not come, so suggest the names of others.
Even before Deepak could suggest the names of others, the union called and said that it had talked to Suhail Seth and Priyanka Chaturvedi, both of whom said yes. Deepak thought the matter was over. But then it came to light that Seth and Chaturvedi canceled due to short notice.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also confirmed. He said the union had contacted him in July. He said yes, but kept the condition that Parliament should not clash with this session. Then the unions disappeared. Suddenly on 25th November a mail came asking for confirmation. Chaturvedi scolded him.
Still Deepak went to Britain. At the last moment, he formed the team of Manu Khajuria and PT Satish K Sharma, who live in Britain. Three hours before the debate dinner, a call came from the union that the Pakistani team had not reached the UK, hence the debate was cancelled.
Deepak was angry because so much time and effort had been spent. He expressed his displeasure over the poor handling of the event. Deepak shared his call log, which contained the call of organizer Musa Harraj. He was apologizing for cancelling. Then came the U-turn.
Musa Harraj had lied. He is the son of Pakistan’s Defense Production Minister Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj. Deepak said that the Pakistani team had reached UK and was staying in a hotel in Oxford.
