After this the villagers and family members cremated the dead body.

80 year old Jammi Devi Meghvanshi, resident of Devnagar village of Asind area, died on Monday. After the death of Jammi Devi, the family members and the villagers were taking the funeral procession to Mokshdham for the last rites, when some people of the village stopped the funeral procession midway, claiming that the route towards Mokshdham was from their private land. The villagers participating in the last journey said that this path has been going towards Moksh Dham for years and it is a public path.

Villagers and land owners continued to express their claims and the funeral procession remained halted midway. In such a situation, as soon as the information was received, Asind Tehsildar Jai Singh and Asind Police Station Officer Hanspal Singh reached the spot and after consulting the villagers and the land owner, the last rites were taken to Moksh Dham and the last rites were performed.

Asind DYSP Omprakash said that as soon as the matter came to his notice, the police team reached the spot. The last rites were performed after the villagers consulted with the owner of the land who had staked their claim. To ensure that there is no dispute in the future in this matter, a report will be prepared and presented before the Asind SDM in two days, after which a permanent solution to the road will be found.

Asind Tehsildar Jai Singh said that he reached the spot as soon as he got the information about stopping the funeral procession in Devnagar village. There the route is recorded in the revenue records but the revenue team was not able to justify the location of the route. In such a situation, there was no road at the spot and the people of the village had encroached.

In such a situation, we have given notice to the trespasser on the spot under Section 91 of the Revenue Act and after explaining to them, got the way opened for the last journey. After that the dead body of the old woman was cremated.
