Evicting a tenant is now becoming a headache for many landlords – especially when the tenant does not pay rent and still refuses to vacate the house. One such case recently came to light on Reddit, where a landlord from Karnataka narrated his problem. He wrote – “I am in big trouble with a tenant. He has not paid the rent for the last one year. The matter has reached the court, but the tenant mostly does not come to the hearing and just keeps delaying the case. Now on the contrary, he is asking me for ₹ 3.5 lakh to vacate the place. I have already lost one year’s rent and a lot of time. Now I don’t know what to do. It feels very wrong to pay him money to vacate my own property.”

Post viral on social media
“The tenant is refusing to vacate the house and is demanding Rs 3.5 lakh to leave – need help.” After the post went viral, many Reddit users sympathized with the landlord and gave him legal advice. Many users expressed disbelief and disappointment at the situation. One user wrote – You allowed the tenant to stay for a whole year without paying rent? It is also your fault to some extent. But now, the best thing is that you Throw him out legally. Call the police and get him evicted. Another user said, “Hey, I am a lawyer living in Delhi. If the matter has reached the court, do not take any illegal step like forcing the tenant to vacate the house. Where do you live?”
On this the Reddit user wrote- “I live in Karnataka.” A third person suggested, “Don’t give in to his demands. Keep pursuing the case in the court. The law will be on your side.” Some people shared their personal experiences, with one user saying, “I too had a similar case where the tenant refused to leave the house for two years. “Several hearings took place, but ultimately the court ordered eviction.”
