Only the father can understand the pain of his son. But when the same son leaves this world, this pain becomes incalculable and unimaginable. Former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa recently candidly shared his feelings on the death of his only son and the family’s 18-year-long struggle.
Father’s helplessness in deep sorrow
Mustafa said, see, only the son can understand the grief of the death of a son. My son was my only child, 35 years old. In such great grief, I did not receive anyone’s call for six-seven days. Neither of big leaders, nor of officers. I was just stuck in the memories of my son and that shock. Meanwhile, some people were trying to rub salt on my wounds, but I am not afraid. Now I have awakened the father and soldier within me, the truth will come out in front of everyone.
Son’s drug addiction and mental health
Mustafa shared the painful history of his son’s 18-year-long drug addiction. He told, in 2006 my son started taking soft drugs during school, then heroin, and finally reached ice in 2024. The use of acid in Manali further damaged his mind and body. Many times he tried to improve, but mental and physical complications pushed him back every time. He told that the son’s mental condition sometimes showed psychotic symptoms. Things happened in his mind that did not happen in reality. This is not just the story of drug addiction, but also the story of mental health and family struggles.
Viral Videos and Political Games
Mustafa also cited the viral video of his son. The son had uploaded the video of August 27 and deleted it after two hours. But some people, who were playing political games against us, downloaded it. In the second video of October 8, the son’s mental instability is clearly visible. In this he was apologizing to his sister. This is not just a video, but a historical document of 18 years of suffering and mental complications.
Reference to serious incidents that happened at home
Mustafa revealed many dangerous and tragic incidents that happened in the house. He told that in 2019 the room was set on fire. Once my daughter-in-law was locked in a room. Many times he behaved violently towards the staff and family. He clarified that despite this the family always showed love and sympathy. Many times police complaints were lodged and attempts were made to find a solution. Mustafa says, the character of my family is high, and the serious allegations being leveled against them are only politically motivated.

While publicly advocating the dignity and bravery of the family, Mustafa said, my wife has been in politics for 25 years and she has learned to always stand for truth and justice. The character of my daughter and daughter-in-law is ideal for every parent. Despite my son’s mistakes, we always understood and took care of him. A son is a son, every mistake is forgiven.
Welcome SIT investigation and faith in law
Mustafa welcomed the SIT investigation and said, I will fully cooperate with the law and investigation. Whatever truth comes out, we will accept it. If anyone harms my family by spreading lies, then strict action will be taken. The character of my daughter, wife and daughter-in-law is pure, and the innocence and struggle of my son should be understood by the world.
Security system and family conflict
Mustafa told that there was special arrangement for security and surveillance in his house. 10 to 20 police and 8-10 staff were present 24 hours. Four women had permanent jobs. There was security glass in every room. Despite this, the son behaved violently many times. But this does not mean that we consider him a criminal. We always tried to understand and improve it. This 18-year struggle was not only of my son but of the entire family.

Mustafa clarified, the false allegations being leveled against us, videos and propaganda on social media are only political games. My family has always faced this challenge with truth, love and compassion. We still stand with the investigation and the law. A son is a son. Whatever truth comes out, we will accept it.
