Miscreants targeted a journalist late on Thursday evening in Civil Lines, a posh area of Prayagraj city of Uttar Pradesh. 54-year-old journalist Laxmi Narayan Singh alias Pappu was stabbed several times in the stomach by unknown assailants near Harsh Hotel in Civil Lines Police Station area.
LN Singh, a resident of Shakuntala Kunj Colony of Dhumanganj police station area, was admitted to SRN Hospital of the Medical College in a bleeding condition, where he died during treatment in the Trauma Center.
After the murder, the police injured one of the accused, Vishal, during the encounter. Vishal has been shot in the leg and has been admitted to the Trauma Center of SRN Hospital. The names of Vishal and Sahil have come to light in this case. The police team is raiding to arrest the second accused Sahil.
Knife attack and death…
Journalist Laxmi Narayan Singh was attacked several times with a knife by the attackers late in the evening, due to which he was badly injured. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADPC) Pushkar Verma said that Singh had suffered serious injuries. He was admitted to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. He was the nephew of former High Court Bar Association President Ashok Singh.
One accused injured in encounter
As soon as the police received information about the attack, action was initiated. Additional Police Commissioner Dr. Ajay Pal Sharma had claimed to arrest the accused soon. The police injured an accused named Vishal during the encounter and admitted him to SRN Hospital. According to the police, Vishal and Sahil are criminals and extort illegal money from street vendors.
Questions on the reason for the murder and law and order
Police said that according to the information received during the interrogation on the spot, there was a fight between the journalist and the accused over some issue, after which the murder took place. The real reason for the murder has not been clear yet. Police is searching for the second accused Sahil and his other associates. Two days ago, a roadways bus driver was killed by hitting a brick at Mundera octroi in Dhumanganj, due to which questions are being raised on law and order.
Demand for strict action from family members
The family members of the deceased journalist have demanded strict action in this matter. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Pushkar Verma said that the police team is examining CCTV footage of the area to identify the attackers.
