IPS Pooran Kumar Suicide Case: While the mysterious death of Haryana’s senior IPS Y Puran Kumar has shaken the police administration, it has also created a stir in the political circles. Even after seven days have passed, the post-mortem of his body has not been done, because his wife and IAS officer Amneet P Kumar are adamant on the demand of arresting the DGP before the investigation. Post mortem was not done even after seven days
The post-mortem of the body of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar has not been done. The reason is the strict stance of his wife and IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar. Amneet is calling her husband’s death not suicide but ‘conspiracy murder’. He is not ready to allow post-mortem until Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and other accused are arrested.
Suicide or conspiracy?
On October 7, IPS Y Puran Kumar shot himself in his government residence located in Sector-11, Chandigarh. At that time his wife Amneet was on a tour with a government delegation in Japan. As soon as she got the news of the incident, she immediately returned. It is said that in his suicide note, Puran Kumar had written the names of 15 senior officers including the DGP of Haryana, who are accused of mental torture.
Investigation stalled due to family’s insistence
The direction of the police investigation has come to a halt due to Y Puran Kumar’s family not getting permission for post-mortem. Chandigarh Police’s SIT has neither received the post-mortem report nor the laptop in which the suicide note was typed. The family has kept that laptop with itself. The investigating agency says that the circumstances of death can be confirmed through the fingerprints and email trail of the laptop.
Leaders and officers standing with Amneet
There is a crowd of political parties and bureaucrats at the house of IPS Puran Kumar. On Monday, Telangana Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Jharkhand Congress in-charge K. Raju came to meet Amneet. Earlier, former Union Minister Pawan Bansal and INLD leader Abhay Chautala have also expressed condolences. Many senior officers are also personally standing in support of Amneet, due to which the matter is becoming more political.
SIT investigation rests on post mortem
The Special Investigation Team of Chandigarh Police has made it clear that the investigation cannot proceed further until the post-mortem is conducted. SIT says that without the medical report, neither the cause of death can be determined nor the suicide note can be confirmed. However, if the family does not consent, the police can legally conduct the post-mortem in the presence of a magistrate so that the evidence is not destroyed.
Gunpowder and ballistic evidence
After six days have passed, the chances of finding gunpowder residue and ballistic evidence are decreasing. The investigation team has also expressed apprehension that due to late post-mortem, the investigation of bullet and weapon may be affected. That is why the police wants that the post-mortem should be conducted as soon as possible in the presence of the expert team of PGI Chandigarh, ballistic expert and magistrate.
New clues found in call details
Police have found many important clues from the call detail records of IPS Y Puran Kumar. A few hours before the incident, he had spoken to several senior officials, a lawyer and some of his acquaintances. The SIT is now preparing to interrogate all of them so that it can be understood under what circumstances they took this step. The investigating agency is also focusing on whether he had to face threat or pressure from anyone?
Five people have been interrogated so far
So far, the police have interrogated five people, including the house servants and some close people. The next step is to interrogate Puran Kumar’s gunman Sushil Kumar, who is currently in jail in an extortion case. Police suspect that the conversation with the gunman before the incident may reveal many secrets. But due to the family’s insistence, the investigation is currently stuck at the same point from where it started.
