OpenAI, a company that is revolutionizing the world of AI, has launched a new web browser ‘Atlas’. The purpose of launching this browser is to compete with Google Chrome, which is the most used browser in the world.
Despite the success of ChatGPT, the company has not been able to make much profit so far. About 800 million people use it, but most are free users. Therefore, ‘Atlas’ is being considered as a new source of income for OpenAI. Especially in the field of online search and advertisements.
First this browser will come on Apple laptops, then soon it will be launched on Windows, iPhone and Android also.
What is special about Atlas?
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Atlas that this is a rare opportunity. This happens every decade. People will get a chance to think about what a browser is and how they can use it. He says that now the traditional “url bar” can be replaced by AI chat interface, which will help you navigate the internet by talking.
He said, “Tabs were a good innovation, but there were no major changes in the browser after that.”
Atlas will have a premium feature. Agent mode, which will automatically search the internet for you. It will find information based on your browsing history and your commands, and explain why and how it is returning the results. “It will use the Internet for you,” Altman said.
Why is this a challenge for Google?
This step of OpenAI can directly challenge Google’s search and browser business. Although, google chrome has almost 3 billion users and has also started adding its own AI system, Gemini, to stay ahead in the market.
Some time ago there was news that if the court forces Google to sell Chrome, then OpenAI may show interest in buying it.
When Google Chrome was launched in 2008, no one believed that it would defeat Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, but its speed and simplicity changed history. Now the same story can be repeated once again. Only this time the players are AI and OpenAI.
