On the night of Diwali, the festival of lights, thieves have committed a major crime in Vidisha city of Madhya Pradesh. Thieves stole jewelery and cash worth ₹35 lakh from a lawyer’s house in Shiv Nagar Colony. The most surprising thing is that before being stolen, these jewelery and cash were arranged on a plate in front of the worship of Goddess Lakshmi.

This is the case of ward number 36 of Civil Lines police station area. The family of Advocate Niranjan Vishwakarma, living near Abhinandan Garden here, performed Lakshmi Puja at 10 pm on Monday night and kept about ₹ 7 thousand in cash along with gold and silver ornaments in front of the Mother Goddess.

After reciting puja and having dinner, the whole family went to sleep by around 1 o’clock in the night. Meanwhile, a family member’s wife woke up at 5 a.m. to find household items scattered and jewelery and cash missing from the puja place.

This information was immediately given to the local police station. As soon as the information was received, police force including CSP Atul Singh, Civil Line police station in-charge RK Mishra reached the spot. Dog squad and finger print expert investigated. Police are now scanning CCTV footage of the surrounding areas in search of thieves.

Vidisha More than 15 thefts have taken place in the city in the last 20 days, but the police has been able to uncover only one theft (Toppura). Police say that the search for the accused is going on.
