The value of seizure of free goods, liquor, narcotics and cash distributed to woo voters during the by-elections in Bihar Assembly and eight assembly seats of seven states has reached Rs 71 crore 30 lakh. The Election Commission said that these goods were seized when the people carrying them could not explain who, from where, why and how these goods were being taken. No valid documents related to goods or cash were found with them.

According to the Election Commission, the seized items include cash worth Rs 27 crore, intoxicants like ganja and charas worth Rs 18 crore, liquor worth Rs 1.5 crore, precious metals like gold and silver worth Rs 5.5 crore and items of daily household use worth about Rs 15 crore. This action is part of the Commission’s strict monitoring to ensure fair and free elections.

C-Vigil app received 650 complaints

The Election Commission said that so far 650 complaints have been received on the C-Vigil app, created to make the common citizens aware, out of which 612 have been resolved. All complaints were resolved within 60 to 100 minutes which shows the prompt action of the Commission. This app helps citizens to report unfair activities, thereby maintaining transparency in the electoral process.

strictness on publicity

The Commission has directed political parties and candidates to publish any political advertisement in the print media during the ‘silent period’ i.e. the period of peace before voting only if its content gets prior approval from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) of the Commission. Bihar For the first phase, this restriction will be in effect till 5th and 6th November, while for the second phase this restriction will be in effect till 10th and 11th November.

The Election Commission clarified that in order to ensure a fair electoral environment, no political party, candidate, organization or individual can publish any advertisement in the print media on the day of polling and the day before unless its content is certified by the MCMC at the state or district level. This step has been taken to maintain transparency and fairness in the election process.
