Tamil actor and politician Vijay will meet the families of the victims of the Karur stampede incident in Mahabalipuram, Chennai on October 27. This accident had happened almost a month ago, on September 27, in which 41 people had died and more than 60 were injured.

Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has organized the meeting at a private resort, where 50 rooms have been booked so that the actor can personally meet each family and express his condolences.

Many victim families from Karur told that the party has arranged buses for them so that they can reach Mahabalipuram. “They have arranged buses for us, many of us are going,” said a family member.

Actor’s protest and support on social media

Mixed reactions have been seen on social media regarding this meeting. Some people said that Vijay should have personally gone to Karur and met the victims’ families, while some defended his decision and said that it was done due to security and permission related reasons.

A spokesperson of Vijay’s party said that he did not get government permission to go to Karur, hence this meeting is being organized in Mahabalipuram so that all the families can be called together.

‘The leader himself should go to the homes of the victims’

Perumal, a resident of Velusamipuram, who lost his two minor daughters in the accident, said, “The leader himself should have gone to the victims’ houses. It is not right to call us.”

According to reports, the injured victims will not be included in this meeting. This incident happened when Vijay was addressing a political meeting. Due to increase in crowd, a stampede broke out and dozens of people lost their lives. This accident is being considered a big political and humanitarian blow for Vijay’s new party.
