The investigation into the death under suspicious circumstances of the 35-year-old son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and his wife, former Punjab government minister Razia Sultana, has taken a new direction. The incident is of 16 October. Advocate Aqil Akhtar, living in Sector-4 of Panchkula, was found dead in his house. When the family broke the door, they saw Aqil lying on the floor. The complainant claimed that Akil died under suspicious circumstances and that before his death he had made serious allegations against his own family in a video. According to the complaint, Aqil had said that his family members were conspiring to implicate him in a false case or kill him. In this video, he had also mentioned about the ‘illicit relationship’ between his father Mohammad Mustafa and his wife. Apart from this, she had also claimed that her entire family including her mother (Razia Sultana) and sister Nishat Akhtar are conspiring to kill her or trying to implicate her in false cases.
The video that changed everything
During the investigation, the police also got the video which Akil had recorded in August. In the video he is saying that my father and family are mentally torturing me. They are trying to prove me crazy. Their plan is to implicate me in a false case or get me eliminated. Akil looks emotional in the video, with tears in his eyes. He says that he is afraid that something might happen from inside the house.
Family’s clarification: He was ill, away from the truth
Former minister Razia Sultana issued a statement saying that some people are targeting her family as part of dirty politics. Our son was mentally unwell. He was undergoing treatment. Some people are trying to take political advantage of our personal suffering. But we have faith in justice. On the other hand, Mohammad Mustafa said that the police has performed its duty by registering an FIR on the complaint. FIR does not mean that someone is guilty. The truth will come out and everything will become clear. He appealed to his well-wishers not to look at this incident from a political point of view.
What did the DCP say:
According to Panchkula DCP Srishti Gupta, after receiving the complaint, an FIR has been registered and a SIT has been formed under the leadership of an ACP level officer. DCP Srishti Gupta said, we are conducting the investigation with complete impartiality. No irregularities were found at the initial level, but after the complaint and video surfaced, investigation has been started in new directions. No innocent person will be punished, and no guilty person will be spared.

Mental illness or family pressure?
The family claims that Akil was suffering from psychotic disorder. He was undergoing treatment and at times went into a state of confusion. But complainant Shamshuddin says that the reference of illness is false. If he was mentally unstable then why was he left home alone? Why not kept in the hospital? And then are the allegations in his video just his imagination?
