Former Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen is among those celebs who always say big things in less words. He always did what his heart said. Recently he talked about the long process of adopting his elder daughter Renee. She told how she was able to adopt Renee after a long battle in the court.
Fought a long battle for my daughter
Sushmita Sen Said that the legal battle for Renee’s adoption started when she was 21 years old and it continued till the age of 24. During a conversation on Dr. Sheen Gurib’s YouTube channel, she said- When I turned 21, I knew that this is what I had to do. From that time till the age of 24, the legal battle continued.
During that time, my daughter was in foster care with me, but there was always this fear that if the family court did not give a decision in my favor, they would take the child back. Now this girl started calling me ‘mother’. I had already made a plan. I told my dad to just keep the car running on the day of the hearing and if anything goes wrong, you should just leave with Renee.
My father said that now you are crossing the limits, I will not do anything like this. But I was very adamant, I did not want to let my daughter go under any circumstances.
Got support from father
Sushmita Sen says that she is proud of her father. Today she has got both the children because of their father. She says that I have got my children because of my father. At that time in India, no woman was given permission to adopt a child unless there was a father or a father-like person.
The court asked my father to show his financial condition and transfer half of his property to me. Then my father replied that I am not very rich, giving half my property will not make any difference. That’s why I have come to transfer my entire property to my daughter.
She further says that the court had warned her father that if the daughter becomes a single mother, she will never find a husband. On this her father said that he has not raised his daughter to become anyone’s wife.
Sushmita said that the long process of adopting Renee was very difficult, but after that the process of adopting her second daughter Alisha became much easier.
