This is because Amavasya Tithi should last throughout the night, which is called Nishith Vyapini Amavasya and this is necessary for Mahanisha Puja which takes place on the same day of Diwali. All these coincidences are taking place on the night of 20th October, hence Lakshmi Puja, Deep Puja of Pradosh Kaal and Mahanisha Puja will all take place from the evening till night of 20th October.
Now let’s talk about 21st October. Even on the date of 21st October, there is Amavasya from morning to evening. Therefore, there is no festival of Diwali on this day as per the scriptures. Because there is a popular belief that on the very next day of Diwali, Parva (Prathama) i.e. govardhan puja And the next day is the festival of Dooj or Bhai Dooj… but let us understand it a little more deeply. Govardhan Puja is not done on the next day of Diwali, but after Diwali, Govardhan Puja is done on the first date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik. Since generally the date of Prathama falls on the next day of Amavasya, hence the common belief is that Govardhan Puja takes place on the next day of Diwali.
Is there no festival on 21st October?

This time Diwali is on 20th October, there is no festival on 21st October i.e. it is empty and then on 22nd October is the first date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik i.e. not immediately after Diwali, but after waiting for a day, Govardhan Puja is on the next day on 22nd October.

Such a situation was created in the year 2022 also. Diwali that year Amavasya There was also a solar eclipse on the same day. Therefore, it was advised to perform Diwali puja before the Sutak of the solar eclipse. The sutak had started late in the night, by then the lamps had also been lit. Therefore, when the eclipse was completed the next day, due to the contact with Sutak, that day was not considered as Pratham Tithi, but Pratham Tithi was considered to be the morning of the next day and then Govardhan Puja was celebrated.

Therefore, after celebrating Diwali on 24th October, the Sutak period of the eclipse started from 4 am in the morning of 25th October. In such a situation, Govardhan Puja took place on 26 October.

Its importance increases due to Amavasya date being on 21st October. The date of Amavasya is the date of purification and spirituality. Therefore, there has been a tradition of river bathing and Ganga bathing on Amavasya day. Along with this, special worship of Shani Dev is done on this day. Offer them a mustard oil lamp, donate black sesame seeds, donate clothes and money. The date of Kartik Amavasya is also the Amavasya of bathing and charity. The effect of planetary defects can be reduced by offering oil to Shani Dev on this day.
