According to astrologer Prateek Bhatt, it would be appropriate to celebrate the festival of Diwali on 20th October this time because Pradosh Vyapini Tithi and Nishith Kaal are being received in Amavasya on this day. Actually, it is very appropriate to worship Goddess Lakshmi on the evening of Diwali in Pradosh Kaal, Mahanishith Kaal and Sthir Lagna. However, according to Diwali Udayatithi, it should be celebrated on 21st October only, but Pradosh Kaal and Nishith Kaal are important in Diwali. Therefore, the date of 20th October will be suitable for Lakshmi Puja.

Diwali worship can be done in business and office on 21st October. But, Lakshmi Puja and Kali Puja (which happens during Mahanishith period) will be done only on 20th October.

What is Mahanishith Kaal?

According to the scriptures, Mahanishitha period is the midnight hour which is the most auspicious time for worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Kali. This time the auspicious time of Mahanishith Kaal will start from 11:36 pm on 20th October and will continue till 12:27 am on 21st October.

Before the puja, do complete cleaning of the house and decorate the puja place with rangoli, toran, lamp garlands and flowers. Then, spread red or yellow cloth on a wooden platform and install the idols of Shri Ganesha and Maa Lakshmi. After that, first of all worship Shri Ganesha and chant Ganapataye Namah Mantra. Then, bathe Maa Lakshmi with Panchamrit, offer Roli, rice, perfume, flowers and chant Maa Lakshmi Mantra at least 108 times. Finally, perform Aarti with camphor and ghee lamp.
