Upper Siang Rescue Operation: Unnot Taye, a porter working for the Indian Army in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, was missing for the last 20 days. Taye, a resident of Akshipur village in Dhemaji district of Assam, suddenly went missing while returning from Midak area on September 20. This place is about 25 kilometers away from Panggo village.
This is how the work contract was signed
Unnot Taye and 11 other porters were employed by a contractor on September 17 to work on the Panggo-Jorging foot track. This area is Tengo-1 and Tengo-2 border area. But when the other porters returned after work and Taye did not arrive, the colleagues feared something untoward.

When there was no trace of Taye, a missing report was lodged at Tuting police station on 23 September. After this, police, army and local people started a joint search and rescue operation. The campaign was led by police station in-charge Jumken Rina.
Search operation in dangerous area
The search team searched dense forests, steep hills and the banks of flowing rivers. This campaign ran from 21 September to 9 October. During this time the team had to face huge challenges due to harsh weather and inaccessible terrain.
Fellow porter gave the news
On October 10, a ray of hope arose when another army porter from Kugging village found Unnot Taye lying unconscious near Midak Camp. He immediately gave this information to the police and local administration.

As soon as the information was received, the police and medical team reached the spot. during this time Arunachal Pradesh Members of the Women’s Welfare Society (Panggo Unit) also came to help. Tuting’s Medical Officer Dr. Maktel Yompang provided first aid on the spot.

The area was so difficult that Taye had to walk 25 kilometers to reach the road. The path was hilly and slippery, but the villagers and the police did not give up and together completed this difficult journey. Finally, on October 11, Taye was taken to the streets.
Treatment in two hospitals
On October 12, Tae was admitted to Yingkyong District Hospital. When his condition improved from there, he was sent to Bakin Partin General Hospital, Pasighat (East Siang) on 13 October. After treatment there, his condition became stable and he was reunited with his family.
The administration took a sigh of relief
