Satellite images have proved that China has deployed its most advanced stealth drone GJ-11 ‘Sharp Sword’ at Shigatse Air Base in Tibet. This base is very close to the Indian border. These drones were kept there for testing from August to September 2025. This is their first operational use.

What is GJ-11 Sharp Sword Drone?
GJ-11 is a kind of pilotless aircraft. It has a ‘flying wing’ design – meaning it looks flat like a wing, like that of a bat. Due to this it escapes from radar i.e. it becomes stealth. China It was shown for the first time in 2013, but now it seems ready for real battle.

What does work?
- Stealth Strikes: Can drop bombs on the enemy from hiding.
- Reconnaissance: Can spy from a distance, can take pictures.
- Electronic Warfare: Can jam enemy radar or communications.
- This drone can fly long distances and works well at altitude. Chinese company AVIC has made it.

Where were you posted?
Shigatse Air Base is in Tibet, near the Himalayas. It is just 200-300 km away from Sikkim border of India. Satellite images (from Planet Labs) show that three GJ-11 drones arrived here in August 2025. He stood on the runway till September.
This is the first time that he was seen at an operational air base. Earlier these were only in factories or test sites. The altitude of Tibet is more than 4,000 meters, so drone testing is difficult here. But China did it successfully.
When and how did it happen?
- July 2025: Satellite gave some indications that the drones were going to Shigatse.
- August 2025: Three drones reached the base. Testing begins.
- September 2025: The drones remained there, but were then removed.
- October 2025: Satellite photos became public, the news spread.
This was testing, but it proves that the drones are now near-combat ready – that is, almost ready for war.

Why is China increasing its strength in the Himalayas?

India also has drones, like ‘Rustom’ and ‘Tapas’, but the stealth ones are less. Experts say this is China’s message – we are ready. But no clash has taken place yet. Both countries are trying to reduce tension through talks.
