Chief CJI BR Gavai of the Supreme Court of India will retire on 23 November and Justice Surya Kant will take oath as the new CJI of India on 24 November. He is about to take oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India.
This swearing in of Justice Surya Kant is going to be very special and different. This is because Chief Justices of 6 countries are going to participate in this event. Such swearing in of a CJI is going to happen for the first time in India.

Invitation letters have been prepared at Rashtrapati Bhavan for this event. Officials say that this will be the first time that such a grand scene will be seen at the swearing-in of a judge. In this grand swearing-in ceremony, the Chief Justices of Bhutan, Kenya, Mauritius, Nepal, Malaysia and Sri Lanka as well as the Supreme Court judges will attend the event along with their families.
