The silence of the festival and the silence of smiles
On the day of Bhai Dooj, long queues formed outside the jail since morning. Sisters arrived with sweets and aarti thali for their brothers. After security check he was allowed to go inside. Inside, there was a different glow on the faces of the male prisoners because they get this feeling of belongingness only once a year. But meanwhile the atmosphere in the women’s barrack was different. Many of the approximately 70 female prisoners got a chance to meet their brothers, but some did not have anyone. One name among them was Muskaan. The same smile, who, along with her lover, had murdered her husband a few months ago and disposed of the dead body in a blue drum. And then she went to the mountains to celebrate with her lover. On the day of Bhai Dooj, when everyone had someone of their own, Muskaan remained sitting quietly in a corner of the jail. No one came to see him, no sweets, no tilak.
‘Brother’ became jail superintendent
during this time Meerut Senior Superintendent of Jail, Dr. Veeresh Raj Sharma decided to break this silence. He told that about 2200 prisoners are lodged in the jail. The sisters were meeting since morning. But no one came to meet the 27 prisoners of the women’s barrack. Dr. Sharma said that all prisoners are equal for the jail administration, no matter how big their crime is. The purpose of the festival is to connect emotions. He told that on Bhai Dooj, all the female prisoners are given this opportunity to vaccinate their brothers. If the brother of a prisoner woman does not arrive, then the jail administration itself organizes this festival for them. On this emotional occasion of Bhai Dooj, there was curiosity among the people about the famous bandi like Muskaan. At present, the jail administration celebrated the festival peacefully amidst security and order.
Famous prisoner of blue drum case
Muskaan is the same girl who is the main accused in the famous Blue Drum murder case of Meerut. The allegation is that she along with her lover murdered her first husband. Then, after keeping the dead body in a blue drum, cement solution was poured on it and left in the room. The matter came to light when the neighbors smelled the smell. Later the police arrested Muskaan and her companion. This massacre was discussed across the country as a blue drum.
