On September 1, 2025, the Supreme Court bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Manmohan gave its decision in this case.

What are the rules of TET?

According to this, it is mandatory for all teachers teaching students from class 1 to 8 to pass TET. This rule applies to teachers appointed after 2011, who have not passed TET. They will have to pass TET within two years or else they will have to take compulsory retirement. Teachers who are near retirement and have less than five years left in their job are exempted from this rule. But if they want promotion then they will have to pass TET.
