“My world was destroyed… my wife and children were killed… now what is left of me here…” These words are echoing off the walls of the Big Mosque of Gangnauli in Baghpat. Those words are from a Mufti whose life turned into ashes in a few moments. What happened in this small village of Baghpat shook every person.
Mufti Ibrahim, who lives in the big mosque of Gangnauli village of police station Doghat area, who is originally from Sunna village of Shamli district, was giving training in this mosque for the last four years. He taught Quran to children in the verandah below the mosque and lived in the upstairs room with his wife Israna and two young daughters. There was peace in the house, there was the name of Allah, but the evening of October 11, 2025, that day became the night of doomsday. Two minor students, who were reading Quran from him, crossed the limits of crime which no one can even imagine.
Merely angry that the Mufti and his wife scolded and beat them for neglecting their studies, the two minor students hatched a horrifying conspiracy. Taking the opportunity, they entered the Mufti’s house in his absence and brutally murdered his wife and two daughters.
Three dead bodies were lying amidst the blood stained walls and blood scattered on the floor. The entire village was stunned by the murder of a mother and her two young daughters. The police took both the minor accused into custody and exposed the incident, but the one who went away was not going to come back. Mufti Ibrahim’s eyes had gone dry. He was repeating only one thing, “Now there is nothing left for me here… everything has been destroyed…” Now Mufti Ibrahim has left the mosque and the village.
Gathering the pieces of his broken life, he has returned to his native village Sunna (district Shamli). People of the village say that while leaving, he simply said, “The place where the blood of my wife and children was shed will no longer remain there.”
The people of the village are silent even today, the verandah of the mosque is deserted, the education of children is stopped. And the Mufti has fled.
Villager Abdul Qayyum told that the Mufti left the mosque, saying that if my wife and children are no longer there, what will I do by staying. Even stopped them but did not stop. Whatever happened was wrong. Police did a good job opening the case. The children who came to take education destroyed his family.
