The story of a love marriage in Jhansi city of UP ended on a painful note. One and a half years ago, the same relationship that had sworn to love has now turned into news of death. 21 year old Mehak, resident of Aligol Khirki locality, was found hanging in her own room. Mehak had eloped and married Hindu youth Vivek Ahirwar about one and a half years ago. While the in-laws are calling it suicide, the maternal side claims that Mehak has been murdered.

The deceased’s mother Gudiya has alleged that son-in-law Vivek and his family continuously tortured the daughter and ultimately murdered her. Police reached the spot and took possession of the body and conducted the post-mortem under tight security.

Friendship started with neighbor, turned into love

According to Mehak’s mother Gudiya, her daughter was cheerful and friendly since childhood. Vivek Ahirwar was visiting his neighbor’s house. The two started meeting there and gradually their friendship took the form of love. Ignoring the walls of religion and society, both of them decided to spend their life together. Gudiya says, on March 7, 2024, Vivek took my daughter away with him. We had given a complaint in the police station, but no hearing took place. After about two months, it came to light that both of them had got married and were living in a rented house in Imlipura locality.

Allegation of atrocities in in-laws

According to the mother, everything went normal for a few months after the marriage, but after that darkness descended in Mehak’s life. It is alleged that Vivek and his family started demanding money from Mehak. When the demands were not met, beatings and mental torture were used. Gudiya says, he asked for money from our daughter several times. Once he told that he wanted a fridge, we somehow arranged the money and got the fridge. Still he was not satisfied. Twice an attempt was made to kill him by hanging. When we got the news, we called Mehak to us. Mehak stayed in her maternal home for many days. Meanwhile, Vivek and his family started apologizing again and again. The mother thought that maybe now everything would be fine, her daughter would settle down, so she was sent back to her in-laws’ house.

The family that went to work got the message of death.

Mehak’s mother told that on October 9, the whole family had gone to Indore to work as a labourer. On Sunday, information was received that Mehak had hanged herself. they immediately Jhansi Returned, but by then it was too late. Gudiya says, by the time we reached, the police had already filled the Panchnama and got the post-mortem done. We were told he committed suicide, but we don’t believe it. My daughter has been killed by Vivek and his family together. They were taking the dead body to the car after tying it with a rope, when my brother saw me and stopped me. It was he who informed the police.

Mother’s screams became a plea for justice

Outside the post-mortem house, the deceased’s mother Gudiya kept crying and saying the same thing again and again, our daughter has been killed. Vivek and his mother together took the life of Mehak. We want justice. Gudiya told that the daughter was constantly threatened. Vivek used to tell her that if she does not separate herself from her parents, this will be her fate. Mother said that Mehak was very scared, but could never say anything openly.

Death due to hanging, husband in custody

Inspector Rajesh Awasthi, in-charge of the city police station, said that prima facie the case appears to be a suicide. The deceased belonged to the Muslim community and the youth is a Hindu. Both of them eloped and got married. Now the dead body of the girl has been found hanging in her rented room. Inspector said, the body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. Husband Vivek Ahirwar has been detained. Further action will be taken after receiving the written complaint from the maternal side.

In-laws now in the circle of law

After Mehak’s death, Jhansi police has called Vivek Ahirwar and other family members for questioning. According to police sources, Vivek told during initial interrogation that Mehak was under mental stress and that is why she committed suicide. However, the police are not yet confirming this claim. Mehak’s brother said, our sister was not happy. Even if there is suicide, the reason is the torture of Vivek and his family. Police should register a case of murder.
