First day- Dhanteras (Dhanteras 2025)

The festival of Diwali starts with Dhanteras. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kuber and Lord Dhanvantari are worshipped, who fulfill every wish related to happiness and prosperity. Buying new things, buying gold and silver on this day is also considered auspicious.

The first time for shopping on Dhanteras will start from 12:01 pm and will last till 12:48 pm. After that, the second Muhurta will be from 1:51 pm to 3:18 pm and the third Muhurta will be from 6:11 pm to 8:41 pm.

Second day- Choti Diwali (Narak Chaturdashi) (Choti Diwali 2025)

Chhoti Diwali is also known as Narak Chaturdashi. According to mythological beliefs, on this day Lord Krishna killed Narakasura.

Third day- Diwali i.e. Deepawali (Diwali 2025)

According to mythological belief, on this day Lord Ram, Mother Sita and Lakshman ji returned to Ayodhya from Lanka. To celebrate his arrival and the victory of good over evil, the people of Ayodhya had decorated the entire Ayodhya by lighting lamps and making rangoli. Also, on this day, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshiped in the evening i.e. during Pradosh period.

This year, Amavasya Tithi will start on 20th October at 3.44 pm and will end at 9.03 pm on 21st October. The most auspicious time for worshiping Lakshmi-Ganesh on 20th October will be from 7.08 pm to 8.18 pm. This period is said to be the combination of Pradosh Kaal and Sthira Lagna, which is considered best for receiving the blessings of Mother Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. This means that people will get about 1 hour 11 minutes time for worship.

Fourth day- Govardhan Puja (Govardhan Puja 2025)

Govardhan Puja takes place on the fourth day of Diwali. Govardhan Mountain is worshiped on the day of Govardhan Puja. According to mythological beliefs, this festival is celebrated in the memory of Lord Krishna’s leela when he saved the people of Braj from the wrath of Indra by lifting Govardhan Mountain on his little finger.

The first Muhurta of Govardhan Puja will be from 6.26 am to 8.42 am on October 22. The timing of evening puja on this day will be from 3:29 pm to 5:44 pm.

Fifth day- Bhai Dooj (Bhai Dooj 2025)

The last day of Diwali is Bhai Dooj. Bhai Dooj is known as Bhau Beej. This festival is considered a symbol of the unbreakable relationship between brother and sister.

On this day, the time to vaccinate brother will be from 1:13 pm to 3:28 pm.
