National Medical Commission (NMC) has changed the number of MBBS seats of NEET UG for the academic session 2025-26. According to the latest data till October 10, now a total of 1,26,600 MBBS seats are available across India. This number includes renewal of old seats as well as newly sanctioned seats for this session.

In the academic year 2025-26, a total of 9,075 new MBBS seats across India, excluding seats within AIIMS and JIPMER, were approved by the NMC. Candidates are advised to check the new number of seats carefully and proceed as per the changed schedule released by NMC.

In Andhra Pradesh, Nandyal-based Shantiram Medical College has increased its MBBS seats from 150 to 250, while Anna Gauri Medical College and Hospital has got approval to start with 150 seats. States like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka have also added more MBBS seats in their respective institutes, thereby increasing opportunities for medical aspirants.

On the other hand, Delhi’s Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research has cut 150 seats from its matrix. In September, the National Medical Commission (NMC) added 6,850 seats but also removed over 1,056 seats citing pending court cases, delay in approvals, renewals and inclusion of additional seats.
