Actually, Trump’s first term was just before Biden. Even during that time, they were upset with illegal immigrants and had made a zero tolerance policy. Whoever crossed the border without documents, a criminal case was immediately registered against him and he was sent to custody. This is where Trump was criticized a lot.
Families were separated in detention centres. Children started being sent to big jails and government shelters. Thousands of families were separated.
