The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Shadab Ahmed, a businessman of companies linked to Mukhtar Ansari, who is also known as Dumpy, from Lucknow Airport. Shadab was the main operator of Aghaz Engineering Works and Mukhtar’s company Vikas Construction. It is alleged that through these two companies, fraud was done on a large scale in the supply of diesel for mobile towers.
ED started investigating this scam and money misappropriation in 2022. In the same year, a notice was sent to Shadab, but instead of being interrogated, he fled to Dubai. When he returned from Mumbai on Wednesday after several months of surveillance, the agency caught him from Lucknow airport.
According to sources, Shadab had used the influence of Mukhtar Ansari to spread a web of corruption in the name of diesel supply. Illegal earnings worth crores of rupees were made by rigging billing. Investigation has also revealed that the role of some government officials and political people in this scam is also suspected. Shadab’s wife Farheen Ansari is a partner in Shadab Aagaaz Engineering.
ED has sent Shadab to jail and now preparations are being made to take him on remand and further interrogation. The agency hopes that after interrogating Shadab, many secrets of Mukhtar Ansari’s financial and illegal business may come to light.
