The Gaganyaan mission of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is progressing rapidly. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan said on Thursday that about 90 percent of the development work has been completed. Gaganyaan is India’s first human space flight mission, in which Indian astronauts will go to space.
This mission will take India to new heights in the field of space. this information ISRO This is based on the statement of Chairman V. Narayanan, made during the promotional program of the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC-2025) to be held on 3-5 November 2025 in Delhi.

Gaganyaan What is the mission? India’s first human space travel
Gaganyaan is India’s ambitious mission, which will fulfill the dream of sending humans into space. This is not like Chandrayaan or Mangalyaan, but in this, living people will go to space. The goal of the mission is to stay in space for at least three days. Astronauts will revolve around the Earth. ISRO Chairman said that the Gaganyaan mission is going very well. Many new technologies have to be developed in this. The main techniques are…
- Human-Rated Rockets: Making the rocket safe enough to fly on humans.
- Human-Centric Products: Special food, clothing and equipment for astronauts.
- Parachute System: An umbrella-like system to slow the capsule during landing.
- Orbital Module: A capsule to live in space, which takes care of air, temperature and safety.
- Environmental Control and Safety System: Keeping the indoor air clean, providing oxygen and protecting from danger.
- Crew Escape System: If there is a problem with the rocket, a system to immediately evacuate the astronauts.

Development work: 90% complete, but still pending
ISRO Chairman said that about 90 percent of the development work has been completed. The remaining work is going on at a fast pace. Now three unmanned flights (uncrewed missions) have to be done before the manned mission. We are preparing for the same.

- First uncrewed mission: A robot astronaut named Vyommitra will fly in it. Vyommitra will check the mission, like whether the systems are working properly or not. This mission can happen in 2026.
- Remaining two missions: There will be testing in these also, so that everything is perfect.
- Objective of the manned mission: In early 2027. In this, four astronauts (program pilot, pilot and two specialists) will go to space.
Successful air drop test on 24 August 2025
A major test for Gaganyaan took place recently. On 24 August 2025, the first integrated air drop test was conducted at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. ISRO said that this test was a test of the parachute-based deceleration system of the crew module.
The chairman said that in the last phase of the mission, nine parachutes should work together while returning the crew module. This test confirms the same. This test strengthens the security of Gaganyaan. If the parachutes failed, the astronauts could be in danger.
ESTIC-2025: Fair of Science and Technology
The chairman’s statement came during the promotional program of ESTIC-2025. This conclave will be held in New Delhi from 3 to 5 November 2025. Emerging science, technology and innovation will be discussed here. Missions like Gaganyaan promote such innovations.
