Nag missile, Torpedo and cannon… Rs 79 thousand crore for all three armies. DAC clears proposals worth about Rs 79000 crore to enhance the capability of the Armed Forces

The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) held a meeting under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on 23 October 2025 in South Block, New Delhi. In this meeting, various proposals of Army, Navy and Air Force were approved, the total amount of which is approximately Rs 79,000 crore. These purchases will strengthen the army’s capability, especially in fighting the enemy on the border and in disaster relief. These steps will give new heights to India’s security.

New strength for Indian Army: three important purchases

DAC gave green signal to three proposals of the Indian Army. This is ‘Acceptance of Need’ (AoN), i.e. the initiation of procurement. This will make the army more lethal against the enemy and stronger in logistics support.

1. Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS)

  • What is?: This is a new version of the Nag missile system mounted on a tracked (chained) vehicle.
  • Benefit: Will increase the ability to destroy enemy war vehicles, bunkers and regional fortifications. These missiles are guided, which hit the target accurately.
  • Importance: The army will get an edge in fighting with tanks or bunkers on the border.

2. Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES)

  • What is?: This is a ground-based mobile electronic intelligence system.
  • Benefit: Will monitor enemy radar or signal emitters 24 hours. With this the enemy’s activities will be known in advance.
  • Importance: The ‘eyes’ of the army will be strengthened in espionage and defense.

3. High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) with Material Handling Crane

  • What is?: High-speed vehicles equipped with cranes for lifting goods.
  • Benefit: Logistic support (delivering goods) will become easier in hilly, desert or forested areas.
  • Importance: Soldiers will get faster help in remote areas, especially in areas like Ladakh or Rajasthan.

These purchases will make the army more agile and secure. Overall, the army soldiers will face a stronger enemy.

Indian Navy For sea power: 5 new systems

DAC approved 5 proposals of Navy. These will make the Navy adept in attack, defense and relief operations at sea.

1. Landing Platform Docks (LPD)

DAC clears proposals

  • What is?: Large ships, which land soldiers and vehicles from the sea to the shore.
  • Benefit: The Army, Navy and Air Force will be able to conduct amphibious (shore attack) operations. Assistance in peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR).
  • Importance: Easy operation on islands like Andaman or Lakshadweep.

2. 30mm Naval Surface Gun (NSG)

  • What is?: Small cannon, which is mounted on ships.
  • Benefit: Empowers the Navy and Coast Guard to conduct low-intensity maritime operations and prevent piracy.
  • Importance: Fighting pirate boats in the Arabian Sea or Bay of Bengal.

3. Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes (ALWT)

DAC clears proposals

  • What is?: Light weight advanced torpedo, indigenously developed by Naval Science and Technology Laboratory (NSTL), DRDO.
  • Benefit: Can target conventional, nuclear and small submarines.
  • Importance: Security from enemy submarines in the sea will increase.

4. Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track System

  • What is?: Enemy detection system using electronic and infra-red sensors.
  • Benefit: Will track targets even at night or in fog.
  • Importance: Accuracy in defense of ships.

5. Smart Ammunition for 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount

DAC clears proposals

  • What is?: Smart shells for faster firing cannon.
  • Benefit: Accurate and fast attack.
  • Importance: Advantage in sea battle.

These purchases will make the Navy a ‘Blue Water Navy’, which will be able to rule the Indian Ocean.

Air Strikes for Indian Air Force: CLRTS/DS and others

The DAC approved the Air Force’s proposals, particularly the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS).

What is CLRTS/DS?

  • What is?: Long range support system, which works like a drone or missile.
  • Benefit: Automatic takeoff, landing, navigation, target acquisition and payload (bomb) delivery.
  • Importance: Attack without a pilot by entering enemy territory. This will ‘saturate’ the target. Other proposals will increase the air superiority of the Air Force.
