Malayalam actor Nihal Pillai, who played important roles in films like Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Mumbai Police and Tiyaan, recently spoke openly about a dark phase of his childhood. Nihal is the husband of actress Priya Mohan, and he runs a YouTube channel named ‘Oru Happy Family’, where he shares videos related to his family.
Revealed after years
Recently he uploaded a video – ‘The Most Traumatic Experience in My Childhood’, in which he told about some incidents of his childhood and the problems related to them, which still affect his mind.
Nihal said that he decided to share this experience after a recently discussed child abuse incident. He told, “I shared this because a similar incident had happened with a child of someone close to me. These days, cases of sexual abuse of children are increasing. Something similar had happened with me too. I never thought that I would tell it publicly. I faced sexual abuse 2-3 times, and two of those incidents were extremely painful.”
Victim of torture twice
After this, Nihal mentioned two incidents which happened in his childhood at different places and were related to two different people. Talking about the first incident, he said, “There was a shoe shop employee’s house near my house. I was about eight or nine years old. A man from that shop called us and said that he would give us football stickers. One day he said that if we came inside, he would give us more stickers.”
Nihal further told what happened that day and how that experience still remains a fear in his mind. He said, “We were three kids. He said that if we came inside, we would get big stickers. I don’t remember exactly whether he tried to touch our bodies or not, but I remember that he called a boy inside and tried to pull down his shorts. After that we never went back there. The smell of that room is still in my mind.”
The second incident took place abroad
He also mentioned another incident, which happened during his childhood in Kuwait. There he encountered an Arab man, but due to Nihal’s intelligence and quick thinking ability, he escaped the situation in time.
Nihal also told in the video that if something like this happens to a child, then how the elders should help them and how important sensitivity and cooperation is in such cases.
