It seems that perhaps Bollywood fans are liking love stories with less popular faces. ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ fame Harshvardhan Rane and Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa’s love story ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ was released in theaters on Tuesday. It clashed with a big film like ‘Thama’ in theatres. But ‘Deewaniyat’, which was considered weak in the Diwali clash, has given a big surprise to the guessers with its solid opening.
Opening of ‘Ek Deewane Ki Diwaniyat’
This film of Harshvardhan and Sonam is ‘A’ rated. Due to this rating, the audience already reduces because the family audience does not take much interest in the shows of these films. On top of that, there was also a big film like ‘Thamaa’ which was considered to be the main Diwali release. Even the advance booking was not so strong that any bang could be expected from it.
But on Tuesday, solid demand for ‘Deewaniyat’ was seen. The walk-in audience was in the mood to give a chance to this film of Harshvardhan and Sonam. Before release, it was expected that this film would collect Rs 3 crore to Rs 5 crore on the first day. But now it has given a solid surprise.
Sacknilk’s estimates show that ‘Deewaniyat’ has collected around Rs 8.5 crore on the first day. The opening collection of this film, which was released on less than half the screens as compared to ‘Thama’, was much more than the expectations.
Audience looking for new faces in romantic stories?
This year, ‘Sayara’, which came with two completely new actors, surprised the trade with its huge earnings. Many Bollywood box office watchers believed that the presence of fresh faces and popular songs in the romantic story was a major reason for the film’s success. There is also a solid example to support this.
In the last two months, two love stories have come from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Jhanvi Kapoor was the lead actress in both. While Sidharth Malhotra was with her in ‘Param Sundari’, Varun Dhawan was her partner in ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’. All three of them are popular young faces of Bollywood and are very visible. Except for one song each from ‘Param Sundari’ and ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’, the rest of the songs were also not very popular. Both these films got better discussion and release than ‘Deewaniyat’.
But while ‘Param Sundari’ had an opening of Rs 7 crore, ‘Sunny Sanskari…’ had earned Rs 10 crore on the first day. That means the opening of ‘Deewaniyat’ is much better than these two. However, on the basis of this opening alone, it is difficult to say that this film will continue to earn big money in future also. Its reviews are not very good and word of mouth is also not very special. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how ‘Deewaniyat’ performs at the box office.
