Bhai Dooj 2025: After Diwali and Govardhan Puja, the festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated on Kartik Shukla Dwitiya. Due to the association of Dwitiya Tithi with Yamraj, it is also called Yama Dwitiya. There are beliefs that on this day sisters apply Tilak to their brothers and wish for his long life. On the day of Bhai Dooj, a brother goes to his sister’s house and gets her tilak applied and eats food prepared by her. It is said that due to this there is no fear of untimely death. According to Hindu calendar, Kartik Shukla Dwitiya Tithi will start on October 22 at 08.16 pm. It will end on October 23 at 10.46 pm. In such a situation, Bhai Dooj is valid on 23rd October only. Let us know what will be the auspicious time for applying Tilak to brother on this day.
Time to vaccinate brother
First Muhurta (Abhijeet Muhurta)- It will start from 11:43 am in the morning and will continue till 12:28 pm.
Second Muhurta (Best Muhurta)- It will last from 1:13 pm to 3:28 pm. This is the best time.
Third Muhurta (Vijay Muhurta)- It will last from 1:58 pm to 2:43 pm.
Fourth Muhurta (Twilight Muhurta)- Starting from 5:43 pm till 6:09 pm.
How did Bhai Dooj start?
According to mythological beliefs, on the day of Bhai Dooj, Yamraj reached his sister Yamuna’s house to meet her. Then Goddess Yamuna welcomed her brother affectionately. Served him delicious food and applied tilak on his forehead. Yamraj was pleased with his sister’s devotion and love and he blessed that any brother who goes to his sister’s house and gets Tilak done on this day will not have the fear of untimely death and will be blessed with a long life.
Bhai Dooj worship method
Wake up early in the morning on the day of Bhai Dooj. On this day the brother should first see the moon. After this, taking bath with Yamuna water or fresh water is considered auspicious. Wear clean clothes after bathing. After this, the brother should go to his sister’s house and get the tilak done by the sister and eat food prepared by her.
On the day of Bhai Dooj, prepare a plate to apply Tilak to your brother. Keep lamp, Akshat, Roli, flower garland, betel nut, dry coconut or shell, Kalava, coin and sweets etc. in that plate. Before applying Tilak to your brother, worship Lord Ganesha. After this, place a post in the north-east direction and make the brother sit on it and do the tilak. First of all tie Kalava to the brother. Apply Tilak with Roli on his forehead and apply Akshat. Then garland your brother and feed him sweets. After this, give coconut to the lady and pray for her happiness, prosperity and longevity. In return, a brother can give any gift to his sister as per his capacity.
