Govardhan Puja 2025 Timings: The festival of Govardhan Puja is being celebrated today i.e. 22nd October. Cows are worshiped on the day of Govardhan Puja, which are considered to be the embodiment of Goddess Lakshmi. Also, special worship of Lord Shri Krishna and Govardhan Mountain is done on this day.
This festival is also famous by the name of Annakoot Utsav. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in North India, especially in Braj Bhoomi Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandgaon, Gokul, Barsana.
According to the Puranas, on this day Lord Krishna protected the people of Braj from the wrath of Lord Indra by lifting Govardhan Mountain on his little finger. After this incident Lord Indra became aware of his ego. Since then, devotees offer Annakoot to Shri Krishna on this day, which includes dishes made from wheat, rice, gram flour and various leafy vegetables.

The Pratipada Tithi of Govardhan Puja has started on 21st October at 5.54 pm and the Tithi will end on 22nd October i.e. tonight at 8.16 pm.
This will be the auspicious time for Govardhan Puja
– One Muhurta will last from 6.26 am to 8.42 am.
– The second Muhurta will be from 3:29 pm to 5:44 pm.
– The third Muhurta will be from 5:44 pm to 6:10 pm.
Method of worship of Govardhan Puja (Govardhan Puja 2025 Pujan Vidhi)
On the day of Govardhan Puja, one should wake up in the morning and first do a light massage and take a bath. After that, make a small Govardhan mountain with cow dung at the main door or courtyard of the house. Figures of trees, plants, small cows and bulls can also be decorated around it. Place a small idol of Lord Krishna in the middle of Govardhan Mountain and offer Annakoot in front of it. After the puja, listen to the story of the fast, distribute the prasad and then have food together.

The religious belief behind performing Govardhan Puja is that Lord Krishna wanted to break the pride of Indra. For this, he protected the people of Gokul from Indra by lifting Govardhan Mountain on his little finger. It is believed that after this, Lord Krishna himself had ordered to worship Govardhan Mountain by making 56 offerings on the day of Kartik Shukla Pratipada. Since then, the tradition of Govardhan Puja continues even today and the festival of Govardhan Puja and Annakoot is celebrated every year.
