Taking major action, the Punjab government has suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested on bribery charges. In the order issued by the Home Department on Saturday, it has been said that after 48 hours of his arrest, he will be considered suspended with automatic effect under All India Service Rule 3(2).

The order of the Home Department states that Punjab According to the report of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, IPS (DIG Ropar Range) was arrested by the CBI on October 16, 2025 in a case registered under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. CBI had taken this action.

CBI had arrested HS Bhullar on the complaint of Fatehgarh Sahib scrap dealer Akash Bhatta. The businessman had alleged that the IPS officer had demanded a bribe of Rs 8 lakh in exchange for closing an old case registered against him. The investigating agency had detained him from its office in Mohali on Thursday.

After this, a raid was conducted at the residence in Chandigarh, from where Rs 7.50 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold, 26 expensive watches, foreign liquor and weapons were recovered. In the order issued by the Home Department, it has also been said that under this rule, Harcharan Singh Bhullar has been suspended with effect from October 16, 2025.

It is clarified in this order, “Any officer who remains in judicial or official custody for more than 48 hours on any criminal charge or for any other reason, will be automatically considered as suspended.” Along with this, the order is signed by Alok Shekhar (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Punjab Government.

When CBI raided HS Bhullar’s luxurious house in Sector-40, Chandigarh and his farmhouse in Samrala, heaps of cash and luxury goods were found. 108 liquor bottles, Rs 15.70 lakh in cash and 17 live cartridges were also found from his farmhouse. During Thursday night’s raid, Rs 5 crore in cash was found.

By Friday the amount of seizure increased to Rs 7.50 crore. CBI said that during the search, keys of luxury vehicles, locker keys, documents of immovable properties in the name of family members and suspicious institutions were also recovered. All these documents will now be included in the forensic investigation of the agency.

CBI has arrested HS Bhullar along with his middleman. Rs 21 lakh in cash was recovered from him. The investigating agency claims that the middleman was working to collect money from businessman Akash Batta. DIG Bhullar had demanded bribe every month to end his case and allow the scrap business to continue.
