The situation went out of control in Baksa district of Assam when 5 accused arrested in the case of Zubin Garg’s death were brought to jail. The crowd seething with anger over the death of the singer started violent demonstrations outside the jail. Within no time, stone pelting, vandalism and arson started. People wanted to arrest the accused. The police had to lathi charge. 9 people have been arrested in this case.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Baksa district Ujjwal Pratim Barua has confirmed the violence. He told that the people involved in this violence have been identified. “We have arrested nine people so far,” he said. The search for the remaining accused is ongoing. Some people are absconding, but we will catch them soon. The investigation has been taken very seriously and our team is continuously conducting raids.
Many people including policemen and media persons were injured during this violence. The mob pelted stones at the vehicles carrying the five accused and set several private vehicles on fire. The situation became so bad that the police had to use lathi charge and tear gas shells to control the crowd. After the unrest spread, the administration immediately suspended internet and mobile data services in Baksa district.

When the situation became normal on Friday, these services were restored again. Security arrangements are still tight in the areas around Mushalpur city. Prohibitory order has been imposed against the accused under section 163 of BNSS. Following the court order, security has been increased in the jail premises. The police force is fully prepared to stop any kind of violence. Strict surveillance is being maintained everywhere.
SSP clearly said that Zubin Garg True fans need not worry. The people who were spreading violence under the guise of being fans have been identified. No innocent person will be harassed. In fact, this entire controversy erupted when a Guwahati court ordered the five accused arrested in the case of Zubin Garg’s death to be sent to judicial custody.
These five accused include North East India Festival chief organizer Shyamkanu Mahant, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, his cousin and police officer Sandipan Garg, private security officers Nandeshwar Bora and Prabin Baishya. All of them are currently lodged in Baksa jail. Two more people arrested in the same case, Zubin’s band member Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahant, were sent to judicial custody on Friday.
Both of them have been kept in Haflong jail of Dima Hasao district. At present, there is a tense situation in Baksa. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had reached Guwahati to pay tribute to Zubin Garg. He also met Zubin’s wife.
Let us tell you that on September 19, famous singer Zubin Garg, who had gone to Singapore to participate in the fourth North East India Festival, died while swimming in the sea. His death shocked the entire North-East India. Millions of fans are still not ready to believe that it was just an accident.
