Punjab’s Ropar Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar has been arrested by CBI on bribery charges. Bhullar is the son of former Punjab DGP M.S. He is the son of Bhullar. The investigating agency arrested him from his office in Mohali and conducted raids in Chandigarh and Mohali from where his huge black money was revealed. In this, five crore rupees in cash, one and a half kilo gold, keys of two luxury vehicles (Mercedes and Audi), 22 precious watches and weapons have been recovered.
Bribe was demanded to settle the case
According to CBI, Bhullar had demanded a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from scrap dealer Akash Batta in exchange for settling an FIR registered in 2023. According to the report, apart from this, he used to demand illegal payment of lakhs of rupees every month in the name of ‘seva-paani’. On the complaint of the businessman, CBI laid a trap and arrested Bhullar’s close associate Krishnau red handed while taking Rs 8 lakh.
CBI recorded bribe call
According to the news agency report, CBI said that in the recording of the WhatsApp call between the businessman and Bhullar during the trap, Bhullar himself was heard saying “8 Phadne Ne 8”, which PunjabConfirms the demand of Rs 8 lakh. After this Bhullar was arrested from his office.
The investigation also revealed that this bribe was not just to “settle” a case, but was part of the ‘service water’ collected every month. CBI has registered a case against Bhullar and his middleman Krishnau under Section 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 61(2) of the Indian Justice Code in the entire matter. It was Krishna who collected bribe money from people in his name.

Harcharan Singh Bhullar is a 2009 batch IPS officer. He had earlier served as DIG of Patiala Range, Joint Director of Vigilance Bureau and SSP in many districts. Bhullar has also led the investigation team in the drug case against Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia in 2021.
