The Uttar Pradesh government has given big relief to lakhs of employees and pensioners of the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a 3 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for about 28 lakh state employees and pensioners. According to the official statement, after this decision DA and DR will increase from 55 percent to 58 percent.
According to the agency, this increase will be effective from July 1, 2025, while the increased payment will be made in cash from October 2025. The Chief Minister has described this decision as a sensitive step taken in the interest of employees and pensioners. He said that this decision is to provide relief from inflation, the government is committed to the welfare of its employees and senior citizens.
This decision will entail an additional financial burden of about Rs 1,960 crore by March 2026. Of these, additional cash amount of Rs 795 crore will be given in November 2025, while an amount of Rs 185 crore will be deposited in the General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) employees.
Apart from this, there will be an additional burden of more than Rs 550 crore on the government in the form of arrears for the period from July to September 2025. From December 2025, the government will have to spend an average of Rs 245 crore per month to continue the increased allowance.
According to officials, the Chief Minister has directed that this increased allowance should be made available to all eligible employees and pensioners on time before the festive season. A senior official of the Finance Department said that this increase in dearness allowance has been made in accordance with the recent announcement of the Central Government. This step will also prove helpful in increasing the purchasing power of the state employees and strengthening the local economy.
