Dhanteras 2025: The festival of Dhanteras is about to come. This year the festival of Dhanteras will be celebrated on 18 October. Kuber performed penance for Shiva for thousands of years
According to the legend, once Kuber ji took a vow to perform rigorous penance for Lord Shiva. He went to the city of Kashi, illuminated by Lord Shiva, and started meditating by invoking the eleven Rudras with the jewel-filled lamps of his mind. Kuber installed a Shivalinga there and became absorbed in devotion. It is said that Kuber had worshiped Shivalinga for thousands of years. Then Lord Shiva appeared to Kuber in the grand form of his divine power Uma.
When Lord Shiva addressed Kuber, Kuber opened his eyes. Lord Shiva’s glory was like the Sun. The moon decorated on his head was spreading its moonlight. Kuber’s eyes closed due to his brilliance. Then Kuber prayed to Lord Shiva and asked him to give me divine vision so that I can see your glory.
But after getting divine vision, Kuber started seeing Shiva’s Shakti Uma with his big eyes. Then Kuber also saw a beautiful woman along with Shiva. It was Uma only. Then the thought came in Kuber’s mind that what kind of penance would this beautiful woman have done that she is so close and fortunate to Mahadev.
Kuber kept looking at that beautiful woman continuously. Then Goddess Uma got angry and Kuber’s eyes burst due to her brightness. However, then Shiva pacified Uma and told that he is a devotee and is trying to understand your brilliance and strength. After this Lord Shiva said to Kuber that I am pleased with your penance and give you a boon that you become the ruler of Yakshas and wealth.
