Police investigating the gang rape of a medical student in Durgapur, West Bengal, have claimed that the victim was in a relationship with one of the six arrested accused. Police claim that when this incident happened on October 10, the victim had gone out of the college premises with the same person.
According to news agency PTI, a police officer said that the accused who was arrested last is a classmate of the victim and on the night of the incident, they had gone out as per a planned plan. Police said that the victim was in a relationship with her friend who was arrested, we have collected enough evidence to prove it. Their conversations on WhatsApp also confirm this.
According to the police, both the victim and her friend told that on the night of the incident they had gone to the forest near a cremation ground. The officer further said that as per his statement, three miscreants followed him while going to the forest. The three miscreants chased them and suddenly attacked them.
According to the agency, police said that both have repeatedly changed their statements about the incident and investigators suspect that it was a deliberate attempt to mislead the investigation. Meanwhile, on Thursday, police again cordoned off the crime scene in the forest area for further investigation. The official confirmed that a portion had already been sealed, but an additional area was cordoned off on Thursday.
The police officer said that the five arrested accused and the victim’s classmate were interrogated throughout the day for several rounds. Once the accused were even brought face to face for cross-examination.
