This test strips away game context entirely and just measures one thing: how fast your specific mouse, in your specific hand, can register clicks. That makes it a useful diagnostic when you're trying to figure out whether a slow score is about your technique or about the mouse itself — swap mice, run the test again, and compare.
Switch type changes your ceiling
Mechanical switches (Omron, Kailh, Huano) have a physical actuation point your finger has to travel through, and the distance and resistance of that travel directly caps how fast you can click. Optical switches remove mechanical debounce delay and tend to register slightly faster and more consistently at high speed, which is why most dedicated speed-clicking mice have switched to optical in the last few years.
Debounce delay, explained simply
Every mechanical switch bounces very slightly on contact, and mice use a small software delay — debounce — to avoid registering that bounce as two clicks.
