Thrilling information for all the MGS speedrunning group, as a brand new skip has been discovered inside 2001 launch and speedrunning favorite Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
Found by MGS and Tomb Raider runner “apel“, the brand new exploit lets gamers glitch by means of the hall of explosives within the sport’s “Tanker” part – forgoing the necessity to battle mercenary Olga Gurlukovich and acquire the USP, which permits Snake to manually destroy the explosives.
The skip works by primarily tricking the sport into believing the explosives have been detonated. Whereas a flag checks the standing of the explosives, guaranteeing that they’re rearmed even when triggered by accident, apel has an unconscious guard set off the explosion, then instances a checkpoint to activate in the course of the sport’s flag examine.
Primarily, the sport saves the “exploded” state for the bombs, somewhat than rearming them, permitting Snake to move by means of unhindered. apel is compelled to take the lengthy route round to re-enter the Engine Room from the West, as coming into by means of the East door would power one other flag examine and re-arm the bombs.
As with so many of those speedrun finds, they make good sense as soon as found, however it’s the act of discovering them within the first place that’s virtually solely brain-breaking. Let’s not neglect the famed “Boba Skip” in Metal Gear Solid, whereby streamer Boba accidentally stumbled into a skip that’s now customary speedrun process.
Whether or not found by means of cautious consideration or sheer luck, new skips in any sport are all the time a discovery, like discovering treasure buried for generations. It was all the time there; it simply wanted to be unearthed.
In fact, none of this pontificating excuses my preliminary thought, which is why the hell would anybody of their proper thoughts need to keep away from an encounter with Olga Gurlukovich? Duraki.
