I’m certain we’ve all seen the socials by now. Epic Video games CEO Tim Sweeney is proudly claiming that Linux support for Fortnite was “vibe coded,” and the official @EpicGames account on X (Previously Twitter) is doing the same for the new Epic Games Launcher. They’re boasting about sooner speeds than Steam, citing enhancements of as much as 46%.
I’ll admit that it’s spectacular on paper. Steam takes roughly 10 seconds in addition, whereas Epic’s new launcher clocks in at round 5 seconds. At the least, that’s what Epic says, and that was seemingly true 48 hours in the past. However on the identical day Epic determined to vibe code their solution to success, Valve had already determined to replace Steam.
By some means, Valve managed to cut that 10-second startup time down to around five seconds as well. Which does put a little bit of a damper on Epic’s daring claims.
Is the brand new Epic Video games Launcher truly higher?
As for Epic’s launcher itself, it does look slightly buggy, although it’s nonetheless a piece in progress. I don’t have the technical know-how to know or perceive what they’re cooking beneath the hood, and I think about neither do the individuals making it, for the reason that code is written by AI.
I am joking, in fact, however as foolish as individuals make vibe coding appear, I do want Epic one of the best in making a greater launcher. On the finish of the day, all we will hope is that it’s going to push Steam to be higher too, as a result of competitors is nice for the business.
I’d like to see a battle of the launchers, together with Xbox, which is in the course of releasing a brand new and improved launcher. My colleague Jez Corden recently broke news about it, and I have to admit that launcher is wanting higher than what we now have needed to put up with from the present Xbox PC app, which by all accounts is terrible.
Do let me know your ideas on the battle of the launchers. Do you recognize Epic’s vibe-coded efforts, or will you be sticking to a different launcher? Let me know within the feedback and make sure you participate in our ballot!
